Bottled Up

Bottled Up is a 2.5D action-adventure simulation game about Ran Munehara, an ordinary high schooler turned magical girl. Her powers come with a unique catch: they lie in her magical pastel pink yo-yo. 

Ran, like most high schoolers, feels pressured about doing something big with her future. To combat this growing feeling of anxiety, she decides to use her magical powers to find a purpose for herself through helping others. She helps people overcome their personal conflicts by battling physical manifestations of their inner demons. 

The game takes place in an ordinary world full of places that Ran frequents, and the characters she meets have some level of personal connection to her. As the game progresses, the players must delve into a distorted version of the town and take on more difficult levels full of enemies to continue the story. 

At its heart, Bottled Up is a lighthearted story of friendship and accepting and overcoming challenges together. The game combines both narrative and combat for those who enjoy games with an emphasis on action and how it can translate into storytelling, and also for those who like all things magic and anime. 

Features 

Narrative-driven. With inspiration taken from the magical girl subgenre and the broader classification of josei manga, and stylized in the form of visual novels, each level is preceded by a cutscene. Progress through the main story and get to understand the people in Ran's life, uncover their flaws and insecurities and discover to what extent magic can be a solution. 

Fun and engaging combat. Each level takes Ran into the inner psyche of characters so she can battle the physical manifestations of their inner demons. Featuring an enemy or hazard with a mechanic specific to the inner demon they represent creates a fast-paced and challenging environment for players to experience. Utilize Ran's distinctive combat arsenal and her rev ability to perform sweet yo-yo tricks and get to dispelling negative emotions. 

Cute and charming graphics. Ran is a 2D magical girl skipping along in a big 3D world, providing depth and an extended range of movement. Drawn with attention to detail, each character and their inner burdens are stylized with unique looks and abilities, and each type of attack is a different yo-yo trick animation. 

Be a cute magical girl. Let's be real, magical girls have always been super cool, and in this game, you can experience what it's like to be one! The yo-yo is just an added bonus.
